Our preschool is seeking a caring, dependable individual to work with our 2-year-old children in a loving, faith-filled environment. This person will work alongside the lead teacher in caring for our students. 

Schedule: 
• 8:45 – 11:30 a.m. 
• Tuesday through Friday; Classes run September through May 

Responsibilities: 
• Assist with classroom activities and play 
• Help provide a safe and nurturing environment 
• Support children's social, emotional, and spiritual growth

145th Annual Summer Festival (Cabot, PA)

145th Annual Concordia Summer Festival – July 26, 2026 | 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Concordia will hold its 145th Summer Festival from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26, in the Lund Care Center back yard on the Concordia at Cabot campus, 134 Marwood Rd., Cabot, PA 16023.

The Summer Festival will feature a picnic lunch starting at 12:30 p.m., live music from The Pittsburgh Doo Wop Big Band beginning at 1:30 p.m. and a traditional worship service at 4 p.m., featuring Concordia’s Director of Chaplaincy Services Rev. Robert Zagore.

A car cruise will also be onsite from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Our chef has crafted a delicious summer picnic-inspired menu for the festival, available at on-site food tents. Please note: all food purchases are cash only.

MAIN TENT: Entrées $12 – Served with a choice of two sides, dessert & beverage

• Rotisserie-Style Chicken

• Smoked Brisket Platter (Hardwood slow-smoked sliced beef)

• Grilled Quarter-pound Cheeseburger or All Beef Hot Dog

• BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich (BBQ pulled pork sandwich served on an onion bun)

Sides: Fresh cubed watermelon, homeade mac & cheese, pasta salad, slow-cooked baked beans, sweet cornbread

A Fishing Derby for kids 12 and under will highlight the children’s activities from 12:30 to 3 p.m. At the pavilion, a caricature artist, crafts and games will also keep the kids busy from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Each child will also receive vouchers for one free drink and one free food item.

During the event from 1 to 3 p.m., open house tours will be available at Haven I retirement living building, just down the road at 112 Marwood Rd., Cabot, PA 16023.

The entire event is open to the public, and admission is free.

He Has Spoken to Us by His Son

We learn from the very first lines of Scripture that our God is a God who speaks. In His omnipotence, there are a million ways that God could have created the heavens and the earth. And yet, He chose words as the means to bring the universe into existence. Likewise, God could have chosen any number of ways to reveal Himself to fallen humanity, but He chooses words to make Himself known to us and create faith in our hearts. 

As the writer of the letter to the Hebrews put it, in the days of the Old Testament, “God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,” but, now in these days of the New Testament, “He has spoken to us by his Son” (1:1-2) and through the apostles whom Jesus has sent out into the world to proclaim the Good News. Everything that we need to know about God, ourselves, and our salvation, God reveals to us through His Word. In fact, Martin Luther would go so far as to say that “God will not deal with us except through His external Word and sacrament” (SA Part III, Art. VIII, 10). 

It should come as no surprise, then, when the devil and his followers attack God’s Word. As long as God sends forth His Word, the devil will continue to sow fear and doubt with his “did God actually say?” (Genesis 3:1). Sadly, our old ancient foe can keep using this same tactic over and over again because we keep falling for it over and over again! 

Every argument we hear in favor of abortion, or sexual immorality (pre-marital sex, same-sex marriage, pornography, etc.), or physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia are really just attacks on God’s Word—attacks influenced by the father of lies (John 8:44). The devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh continually try to convince us that God’s Word is either wrong or that it doesn’t apply to us and our circumstances. 

In the face of such attacks, the cross of Christ and His empty tomb, stand as signs of God’s unending faithfulness, reminding us that God’s Word is both unfailing and unchanging. Friends of life, hold fast to the Word that God speaks to us! His Words truly are the “words of eternal life” (John 6:68), by which God instructs us about the love He has for each person, strengthens us to withstand the attacks of the evil one, and turns the hearts of our enemies.

Harrison elected to sixth term as LCMS president

The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, having received more than 50% of the votes cast in the third ballot for the election of the president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), is the president-elect for the 2026–2029 triennium. It will be his sixth term in office.

The election for the position of Synod president began last fall with an online nominating process, conducted by YesElections, that concluded Feb. 18, or five months prior to the start of the Synod convention, with a report to the secretary of the Synod.

The resulting candidates for the office of president were the five ordained ministers who received the highest number of votes in the nominations process and who consented to serve if elected. The voting began, according to Bylaw 3.12.2.4, starting June 6 (six weeks prior to the convention) via Internet balloting provided by YesElections.

The 5,478 pastoral and lay voters validly registered by the congregations and parishes of the Synod (Bylaw 3.12.2.3) before the deadline (electronic registration by March 8) or their substitutes (as validly submitted before May 29) served as the voters for this election. Of those, a total of 5,038 votes were cast in the third round of voting, constituting a vote percentage of 92.0% of the electorate. (The voter percentage was 85.4% in the first round and 88.4% in the second round.)

The results of the third ballot tallied and reported to the secretary of the Synod are as follows:

• Harrison was voted president-elect with 2,524 votes (50.1%);

• The Rev. Dr. Joel D. Biermann received 2,414 votes (47.9%); and

• The Rev. Benjamin T. Ball received 100 votes (2.0%).

Harrison responded to the news of his election.

“First, thank you to the candidates who were willing to be subjected to this grueling processof public scrutiny, and especially to Dr. Biermann. I had prepared a concession speech thanking Joel for standing, noting how blessed we are in the LCMS to have such a capable theologian as our new president, and vowing my support. Thanks, too, to First Vice-President Lange, Brady Finnern and Ben Ball. Any one of them would be a blessing.

“Thank you for this amazing opportunity to serve a final term. Please forgive me my many faults and sins. I plead for your prayers for fidelity to the Gospel of Christ’s blood-bought forgiveness, and prayers that I may serve all of you as Christ would have me do in these final three years.

“‘Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.’” (Heb. 13:20–21)

The Bylaws of the LCMS instruct the secretary of the Synod to notify the candidates in the Synod’s presidential election of the results of the balloting at least two weeks prior to the convention. The candidates were informed earlier today, June 24, of the results of the June 20–23 ballot. Additional information about the election result will be published in the second issue of Today’s Business , which will be available at the beginning of the convention. The 69th Regular Convention of the LCMS will take place July 18–23 at the Phoenix Convention Center under theme “Christ Is Risen Indeed.”
