The 2026 National March for Life is in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 23, 2026. Plan now to join other Lutherans to march and stand boldly together in the public square and confess our beliefs about the sanctity of life. The events of the day begin at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Va. (1801 Russell Road, Alexandria, 22301) for Divine Service followed by brunch.  There is limited bus seating to take marchers to the National Mall. We will have youth group Sunday, January 18th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. here at Zion Lutheran Church. We’ll continue our “Spiritual Conversations” Bible Study from Lutheran Hour Ministries, eat, and play Jackbox games.

Facing the Firsts – A Grief Support Event hosted by Good Samaritan Hospice

Event location: Good Samaritan Hospice 116 Browns Hill Rd., Valencia, PA 16059

This grief workshop is designed to help individuals prepare for how to navigate those first holidays, birthdays and other special occasions, without their loved one being present. This year, we will also address the matter of, "sometimes the second year seems worst than the first." This workshop will also allow time for bereaved individuals to connect and share with one another. The Facing the Firsts ... workshop will be hosted by Good Samaritan Hospice Bereavement Coordinator, Marcia Jones-Washington. Please call to RSVP by Friday January 9, 2026. LWML Sunday - October 5, 2025
Since 1942, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions. As Lutheran Women in Mission, members joyfully proclaim Christ, support missions, and equip women to honor God by serving others. 

Did you know that Zion has had a chartered LWML society since the 1950s?! Our LWML society at Zion went through a long period of inactivity, but due to a renewed desire to participate in missions and connect to our sisters in mission across the country through LWML, our Zion society was re-formed in 2022. All ladies of the congregation are cordially invited to attend our quarterly meetings and fellowship gatherings with local and regional LWML members. In fact, all female members of an LCMS congregation are officially part of the LWML . . . so there’s no formal process for women to join an LWML society. One of the many benefits of belonging to an LCMS congregation! 

You have probably noticed one staple of LWML — the Mite Box — displayed on the table in the back of our sanctuary. Based on the account of the widow's mite in Luke Chapter 21, the Mite box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" — offerings above and beyond the support given to congregations and the LCMS.

The LWML Eastern District Fall Retreat is September 19-21 at Camp Lutherlyn in Butler.  A small group of us is preparing to register for the Saturday only retreat option on September 20th. We'll leave Zion early in the morning and return after dinner following a day of fellowship, study, and rest.
