Lutherans Engage - Fall 2025 Issue

On any given Sunday at many LCMS congregations, older members smile at the antics of the youngest Lutherans, while people from different backgrounds join together in worship and then mingle over coffee cake or donuts.

In the various stories in the Fall 2025 issue of Lutherans Engage the World, the same kinds of scenes are playing out. “[The] children of God come in all ages, shapes and forms,” we are reminded in a feature story about how three congregations care for their shut-in and homebound members. In the Update, Mercy Moment and Spotlight articles, we see how the church welcomes young people. And in the features about two thriving Chinese ministries and outreach in Italy, we learn how all kinds of people are finding a home — an “eternal family,” according to Pastor Andy Wu — in the LCMS. To God be the glory.

Thanksgiving Offerings Supports …

Your Thanksgiving Offering will help Support Sergiu Trifa
Sergiu Trifa is a native Romanian currently in his third year at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN with the goal of becoming a Lutheran pastor. He's the son of Rev. Sorin-Horia Trifa, a Romanian pastor who works with the LCMS. His story is one of faith in action, most notably his mission work in Romania, where in 2022, he led thousands of Ukrainian refugees from their war torn communities to safety in Romania.

In order to support Sergiu's journey toward becoming a pastor, Zion will be designating all offerings at our Thanksgiving Eve Services to his educational expenses. The cost associated with pursuing a seminary degree in Pastoral Studies is formidable, and is sometimes a severe obstacle for students. It is our hope that we can support this amazing young man, as part of our broader efforts to support the development of more full-time church workers for our Lutheran congregations!

You may donate via check or cash in your envelope. Please make checks payable to “Zion Lutheran Church”, with “Thanksgiving” in the memo line. You may also mail your check to the church office or contribute online.

Spiritual Conversations: Part 2 of 4 Videos

PART 2 of 4
The Eager Conversationalist/Spiritual Conversation Curve Workshops
Drawing on Barna Group data contained in the 2018 monograph Spiritual Conversations in the Digital Age, Lutheran Hour Ministries is offering two workshops: the first, Eager Conversationalists, examines spiritual conversations. It offers insights to help us become more intentional-more eager-to engage in spiritual conversations with others. The second, The Spiritual Conversation Curve, offers help in getting past conversational hurdles. This is possible when we focus on someone’s “spiritual posture,” so as not to impose a conversation that’s forced or ill-timed.
