President’s Perspective
Psalms for Summer Your church never rests, and why should it?!!! There is so much work to do for our ministries, sharing the Gospel of our Lord. Hopefully you are having a nice summer and looking forward to each day that begins so early and ends so relatively late. Enjoy the "day the Lord has made"---every day!
Our Quarterly Voters' Meeting is on July 28th; please attend the meeting to hear what your Council's Boards and Committees have been doing on your behalf the past few months and are planning to do in the coming months. We'll soon be welcoming our Deaconess to Zion! Joanna Lee will be installed as Deaconess on Sunday, August 4th at the 10:30 service and we'll have a brunch between services to welcome her. Be sure to say "Hello" as she and her family settle into our community. "Bless the Lord, O my soul!"

If you see a Trustee, (and surely you do each week), please thank them for all the work that has been done and is being done each month for your church. Mike Debowski and Jim Oelschlager worked incredibly hard to replace all the fluorescent light fixtures in the school facility with significantly more efficient LED type fixtures. The lighting is amazing and will lower electrical costs. Some trees have been removed and the grounds are looking good. We have a really wonderful group of Trustees. "For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good."
Think about volunteering for a position on Council in some fashion in the next few months. Your church needs and encourages your participation and stewardship in such a manner! If you're a young man or woman, think about helping out in some fashion. For instance, just helping Mike and Jim with the lighting project would have really given a young person some valuable experience that might just come in handy once you have your own home and family projects to accomplish! We'll soon be looking for people to nominate to fill expiring positions for next year. Step forward. Raise your hand. "Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant!"
Keep our shut-ins and our friends that are going through some rough times in your prayers. Pray for the Christians on this orb and our LCMS, our District & Circuit churches and of course, Zion! "For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place..."
Oh, and remember the last verse of the awesome book of Psalms: "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!" Amen.

Old Testament Reading -- Amos 7:7–15
This is what [the Lord God] showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,
“Behold, I am setting a plumb line
in the midst of my people Israel;
I will never again pass by them;
the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate,
and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste,
and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos has said,
“‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and Israel must go into exile
away from his land.’”
And Amaziah said to Amos, “O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there, but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”
Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, “I was no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’”
Epistle Reading -- Ephesians 1:3–14
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
