“The Word of our God will stand forever.”
Isaiah 40:8

Many Christians will see the rising rate of homosexual marriage in our country and say, “This would have been unthinkable 25 years ago in our country! It used to be easier to be a Christian here in the U.S.” That might be true. What is definitely true though is that we Christians should never base our lives upon whether or not it is easy to live in this world – we should base our lives upon the Word of God. Our country has always been changing and as with all countries it will continue to change, but the Word of God stands forever.

Many Christians will see the rising rate of abortions, and late term abortions (even when a baby is considered “viable” or able to live on its own). Many Christians may have recently heard that between the years 2012-2014, the state of New York killed more babies through abortion, than were actually born alive. Many may feel like saying, “This would have been unthinkable 50 years ago. It used to be easier to be a Christian in the U.S.” That might be true. What is definitely true though is that we Christians should never base our lives upon whether or not it is easy to live in this world – we should base our lives upon the Word of God. Our country has always been changing and as with all countries it will continue to change, but the Word of God stands forever.

So, what are we to do? Do we sit around and bemoan previous years that were supposedly “better” or “easier” for us to live as Christians? Do we sit around and weep because we might face persecution for the faith, or be mocked as being “intolerant”, or told we are “ignorant.” Of course not! Our Christian lives have NEVER been dependent upon the culture or world around us. Our Christian lives have always been , and always will be, dependent upon the Word of God alone.

As we enter the season of Lent, I pray all of us will return to the Word of God. We return not only to be corrected and yes, sometimes even rebuked. More than anything, we always return to the Word of God because Jesus Christ will never fail you, never change and always desires to preserve you in the faith. The very world around us could literally crumble and fall, but the Word of God, Jesus Christ, will last forever!
