1)  Martin Luther wrote: "If you want to engage profitably in the study of theology and Holy Scripture and do not want to run head-on into a Scripture closed and sealed, then learn above all things, to understand sin aright.

2)  When it comes to the subject of sin, the issue is not what you do.  The issue is what you are.  Being born in Adam, you are a sinner.

3)  We are sinners because we are born in Adam.  We became sinners when Adam sinned! 

4)  If you educate, refine, and discipline a sinner, all you get is an educated, refined and disciplined sinner.
